Periodization

This is a term used to organise the competitive and training season.  This can be broken down further to general physical preperation (GPP), strength, max strength, power and plyometric/specefic training.

Where we fit in.

There are different types of training that an athlete will do.

Skill/Games: This is where you work on your skill for your sport e.g. football training will train on tactics etc, an athlete will practice there technique etc etc.  Most athletes spend alot of time on this aspect.

Aerobic or energy pathway: This is done to increase your aerobic power so you can recover quicker from multiple sprints if you play a team sports or if your an endurance athlete make sure you can complete the distance.

This training can be done in the same session.

Strength and conditioning: Where a mixture of Olympic style lifting, plyometrics and weight lifting is used to increase all over strength and explosive power for your sport.
